La guerra contro i bulloni arrugginiti si è definitivamente conclusa ieri Domenica 15 Dicembre....ecco quello che rimane del povero/fortunato  RichRon.
Ora ci penserà la sabbiatura a dare il colpo di grazia.

The war against the rusty bolts has finally ended last Sunday, December 15th .... here is what remains of the poor / lucky RichRon.

.....virgolettato.....se dividessimo il restauro in due parti e cioè smontaggio/montaggio, allora il titolo potrebbe essere giusto.
Purtroppo, o per fortuna, non è così....la fase di smontaggio è sempre in discesa, a volte anche noiosa perché segue una strada obbligata...mentalmente faticosa perché il viaggio è solo all'inizio e vedi il magazzino riempirsi piano piano di miliardi di pezzi....ogni tanto ti guardi intorno e dici: "sono io che dovrò rimontare tutto questo?"
Ora i lavori si fanno seri, tecnici e da professionisti....il momento di saldare i vari lamierati che attendono da mesi, sabbiare e verniciare....l'ora di aprire il 3.5 V8, che gira perfetto quanto un kenyano sull'arrivo di Central Park.
Come per le gare di lunga distanza, il metodo migliore è dividere il viaggio in tanti check point e non pensare mai all'arrivo ma solo al prossimo....il mio prossimo check point è questo:

If we divide the restoration in two parts, disassembly / assembly, the title might be right.

Una volta arrivato qui, penserò al prossimo!
Un calcolo approssimativo mi dice che le ore passate a smontare sono state circa 100...vedremo per quante volte dovrò moltiplicare questa cifra con la fase di rimontaggio.

Once I get here , will think about the next one!A rough calculation tells me that the hours spent to disassemble have been about 100 ... we'll see how many times I have to multiply this number with the refitting.

3h30': qualche anno fa era il mio tempo in maratona oggi invece tutt'altro.....le priorità aumentano e bisogna scegliere.
Tanto ci è voluto sabato scorso per estrarre motore e trasmissione dall'interno della macchina.....a detta di molti, una passeggiata, invece ci siamo ritrovati (io e mio zio) a dover smontare di tutto.
E' stato molto faticoso, quanto la maratona.....

3h30 ': a few years ago it was my marathon person best but now...  increase the priority and I have to choose from.
So it took last Saturday to pull engine and transmission from inside the car ..... many people say, too easy, instead we found ourselves (me and my uncle) having to disassemble everything.
It was very tiring, as the marathon .....

Un po' di shopping!

Un' altra parte importante dei progetti di restauro è la ricerca dei pezzi originali, il più delle volte fuori produzione, e soprattutto corrispondenti all'anno del proprio mezzo.
Si perché potresti trovare il fanale dell' anno "x" ma ti serve quello dell'anno "y", il tappetino in velluto invece del vinile, la vaschetta dell' acqua rettangolare ma per pochi anni è stata fatta quadrata....questo comporta uno studio molto approfondito e scientifico dei vari pezzi e versioni, con l'ausilio di strumenti molto sofisticati ;-)
Tutto questo richiede molto tempo e tanta pazienza....e tante e tante e tante pagine da sfogliare online.
In tutto questo Ebay Uk è un partner a dir poco indispensabile, c'è un po' di tutto e con prezzi reali....il mercato ricambi italiano invece è un tantino gonfiato.
Questa premessa per introdurre due pezzi simbolo delle Range dei primissimi anni, uno di questi anzi (gli specchietti), icone che l'hanno contraddistinta fino al 1975.

Aggiornamenti di Settembre e Ottobre

Come volevasi dimostrare....la pacchia è finita (ferie di Agosto) ed ho capito il perché questi restauri si protraggono per anni ed anni.
La routine è ripartita quindi fra lavoro e famiglia non rimane tempo per il povero RichRon, al quale ho destinato tutte le domenica mattina..... alle 8.00 ero puntuale "al lavoro".
La scaletta prevede di estrarre a breve motore e trasmissione quindi ho provveduto a smontare tutto l'impianto elettrico, impianto di sterzo, gas, frizione e freno.
Scarico a parte, che richiederà il caro vecchio flessibile perché tutto arrugginito e non originale dell'epoca, non vi è più nient'altro d'intralcio.
L'ultima domenica di Ottobre vedrò di svitare tutto quello che tiene il motore e la trasmissione attaccati al telaio, sarà un grande battaglia....e per il weekend dei Santi, con più tempo a disposizione, via tutto!

That's true .... the party is over (August's holidays) and I understood why these restorations go on for years and years.
The routine started so between work and family, I don't have any time for the poor RichRon but I have dedicated all Sunday morning ..... at 8:00 am I was "at work."
The plan provides to be removed in the short time engine and transmission so I proceeded to disassemble the electrical system, steering, gas, brake and clutch.
I only left exhaust system, who will require the good old flexible because all rusty and not the original one.....there is nothing else!!
On the last Sunday of October, I'll try to unscrew everything that keeps the engine and transmission attached to the frame, it will be a great battle.... and at the Saints weekend, with more time available, it all away!

Aggiornamenti di Agosto

Un po' per entusiasmo ma anche per tanto tempo libero dalla mia parte, il mese di Agosto è stato proficuo e l'interno è ora completamente svuotato.
Rivestimenti, tappeti e moquette, poltrone e divanetto dove ogni singolo bullone di fissaggio ha dato il suo bel da fare perché completamente arrugginito.

A little enthusiasm but also for more free time available,  August has been profitable and the interior is now completely emptied.
Coatings, carpets and rugs, armchairs and sofa where every single bolt gave his work cut out because it was completely rusted

Poi ho proseguito con il pavimento posteriore, consolle centrale e cruscotto.

Then, I continued with floor panel, gearbox tunnel and dashboard.

RichRon Profile

RichRon è un Range Rover del 1971, un originale Suffisso A.
E' stato immatricolato nel Maggio del 1971, pochi mesi dopo il lancio nel lontano Giugno 1970 e rimasto fino a poco tempo fa a fare il proprio dovere nelle colline della campagna inglese.
Negli ultimi 4/5 anni è stato riposto in un fienile del Devon (UK) ed usato come ripostiglio... destinato prima o poi alla rottamazione.
Ho deciso, insieme a mia moglie e mio figlio, di salvarlo e riportarlo al suo antico splendore
Questo blog sarà quindi il foto-diario del restauro e del ritorno su strada di RichRon.

RichRon is a 1971 Range Rover, genuine Suffix A .
She was registered in May 1971, few months after the launch in June 1970 and remained until a short time ago to do his duty in the hills of the English countryside.
In the last 4/5 years has been stored in a barn in Devon (UK) and used as a storage room ... destined sooner or later scrapped.
I decided, with my wife and my son, to save it and bring it back to its former glory.
